試合レビュー：Jリーグ
横浜マリノス対浦和レッズ
Jリーグ第5節で早くも実現した首位攻防戦、横浜マリノス対浦和レッズの試合が3月25日に横浜の日産スタジアムにて行われた。スコアは1-3で、アウェイの浦和が勝利し、横浜から首位の座を奪っている。
岡田監督就任以来、毎年のように優勝候補に挙げられている横浜は、今季もFWマルケス、MFマグロンという有力なブラジル人選手を補強。彼ら二人と、長年チームに貢献しているDFドゥトラから成る左サイドのブラジル人トライアングルは素晴らしい攻撃力を披露し、開幕4連勝に大きく貢献していた。一方、ブッフバルト監督の下、近年飛躍的な成長を遂げる浦和レッズは、昨季途中にドイツのバイヤー・レバークーゼンからMFポンテ、今季開幕前に東京ヴェルディからFWワシントン、さらには日本代表MF小野伸二まで獲得し、Jリーグ屈指の強烈な布陣を作り上げている。
今回、豪華メンバーが揃った両者の対決に大きな注目が集まった。名を連ねた外国人選手たち（いずれもブラジル人選手であった）、マルケス、マグロン、ドゥトラ、ワシントン、ポンテの実力に疑いの余地はない。そして久保竜彦、中澤佑二、小野伸二といった日本を代表するスター選手たちがピッチに立つのである。それが首位攻防戦なのだから、まさに舞台は整ったといっていい。
試合自体は両チームが守備に重点を置く展開で進んでいく。相手が圧倒的な攻撃力（前節まで横浜は1試合平均3得点を挙げている）を有する横浜なのだから、アウェイの浦和が守りに入るのも当然だろう。一方、横浜も普段の布陣で臨んではいたが、首位を意識し過ぎたか、今後ともライバルになるであろう浦和相手になかなか攻撃を仕掛けることができない。
拮抗した試合が動いたのは前半終了間際。浦和のセットプレイが均衡を破った。CKからトゥーリオが擦らしたボールを山田が押し込み、0-1。すると横浜のDFラインは浮き足立ち、後半開始早々に浦和が追加点のチャンスを掴む。GKのキックミスを拾ったFWワシントンがそのままシュートまで持ち込んだ。これはゴールにならなかったが、数分後にポンテの華麗なヒールパスから抜け出したワシントンが、今度は見事なフェイントで横浜DFをかわし素晴らしいゴールを決める。
スコアは0-2となり、この日あまりゴールの臭いを感じさせていなかった横浜はさらに厳しい状況に追い込まれた。浦和は、守備陣が集中力を保つだけでなく、攻撃陣が常に鋭いカウンターを仕掛けてくる。横浜は打開策として、スピードのあるMF（もしくはFW）清水、右サイドのMF田中、高さのあるFW大島、と選手を次々に投入していったが、なかなか変化は見られない。一方、浦和の守備は堅く、攻撃のほうでは今にも3点目を決めそうな勢いだった。
このまま試合が終わりそうな雰囲気が漂っていた後半44分、それまで中盤、特に横浜の左サイドを徹底的にケアしていた浦和の守備が、一瞬だけマルケスからマークを放す。するとマルケスは正確で速いクロスボールを中央へ蹴り込み、途中投入のFW大島がヘディングで綺麗にゴールネットを揺らした。すでに後半も、「3分」と示されたロスタイムへ突入していたが、この時点なら、僅かながらも横浜に追いつく可能性はあったともいえよう。
試合はそのままでは終わらなかった。しかし、待っていたのは横浜が期待するようなドラマではない。おそらく完璧に試合の流れを支配したといえる浦和が、それに値するスコアを手にするために用意された完璧な幕切れだった。1～2分間だけボールを支配していれば勝利となる浦和だが、横浜は最後の力を振り絞り、それを奪いに来る。中央ライン付近でボールを受けたMF長谷部は、鋭いドリブルで横浜選手の間を切り裂き、ワシントンへラストパスを出した。タイミングが少し合わなかったため、ワシントンはキープに入ったが、そのボールを再び受けた長谷部は、躊躇することなくペナルティエリア内へ突入し、豪快なシュートを放つ。ボールは綺麗にゴールマウスへと吸い込まれていった。歓喜の雄叫びを上げる長谷部とともに、1-3で試合終了。
才能ある若手として期待され、つい最近、日本代表でもデビューを飾った長谷部だが、最初に上で名前を挙げたような面々に比べれば、まだまだ知名度でも実績でも及ばない。しかし、この試合で彼が見せたプレーには素晴らしいものがあった。経験の浅さから、まだつまらないミスも少なくはないが、全体としては攻守に大きく貢献し、随所で精度の高いドリブルやキックを披露している。そして最後は自らの美しいゴールで試合を締めくくってみせた。
新しいスターの誕生と表現するのは誇張だろうか。少なくとも、彼は卓越したサッカーセンスの持ち主であり、それをこの試合で周囲へアピールすることに成功したのだ、とはいえるはずである。日本代表の中盤には、中田英寿、中村俊輔、小野伸二、小笠原満男がいる。浦和レッズにも小野とポンテがいる。しかし、彼らと同列で長谷部誠の名前が並べられるようになる日もそう遠くはないだろう。浦和はこの試合で勝ち点3以上のものを手にしたといえるかもしれない。
