コラム　第一回

欧州CLで強烈なインパクトを残したロナウジーニョ

　10代から脚光を浴び、1999年コパ・アメリカでA代表デビューするとすぐに美しいゴールで異彩を放ってみせた。2002年コリア・ジャパンでは10番リバウド、9番ロナウドという世界を代表する二人の“R”と組みながらも着実に存在感を示し、イングランド戦では奇をてらったFKを決めてみせた。誰にも読めないトリッキーなプレーの数々や、相手を置き去りにする瞬時のスピードと、サンバのリズムに乗った技巧ドリブル……。
　現在25歳にして、すでに世界最高の選手であるとの声も少なくなく、2004年にFIFA世界年間最優秀選手の投票で1位、フランス・フットボール誌の欧州年間最優秀選手投票で3位に選出されている。2005年も両投票で最有力候補の一人になることは間違いないであろう。

　素晴らしいテクニックに加えて特筆すべきなのは、やはりビッグ・ゲームでの活躍、それもゴールだろう。現在、名実ともに世界最高峰のリーグに位置するリーガ・エスパニョーラで2年目のジンクスと戦っていた昨季も、最大の桧舞台であるエル・クラシコでは2試合ともにゴールを記録。（カンプ・ノウとベルナベウでそれぞれ1得点）
　優勝争いが熾烈化していた終盤のバレンシア戦メスタージャでも鮮やかな先制点を挙げチームの勝利に大きく貢献している。
　欧州CLにおいては、事実上の決勝戦とさえいわれたチェルシー戦スタンフォード・ブリッジで2得点、GL屈指の好カードとなったミラン戦カンプ・ノウでも終了間際に華麗な決勝ゴールを叩き込んでいる。

　そして今季のウディネーゼ戦もインパクト抜群だった。美しい直接フリーキックで先制ゴールを決めると、追いつかれた後に、エトーの折り返しをしっかりコースに流し込み勝ち越しの2点目もマークする。3点目を狙いにいきたいであろうゴール前の直接フリーキックを譲りデコの得点のお手伝いをし、相手に退場者が出て試合の大勢が決まった後の終了直前に、自らのドリブルでPKを貰い見事なハットトリック達成という内容である。
　絵になる選手、主役に相応しい選手とは彼みたいな人間のことを指すのだろう。

　さて、世界で最も注目されているフットボーラーの一人となったロナウジーニョだが、あえて彼の課題を挙げるとすると、おそらくこの2つになるはずだ。

①年齢的な問題か、“試合によって”好不調の波があり消える時間が多い。

　組織が成熟し、レベルが拮抗し、戦術が浸透しきっている現在の欧州サッカーにおいて、誰かが長い時間消えることは許されないといっていい。
　唯一許される可能性があるとしたら、それはカウンターに備えて孤立してでもトップに残ることを要求されたセンターフォワードだが、仮に試合を通してその選手にまともな仕事がなかったとすれば、そのチームは機能していなかったということだろう。そういうワントップの場合、一回のチャンスで一点取ってチームが守りきって勝つことができれば、それだけの仕事で主役になるケースもなくはない。
　しかし、なかなかボールが回ってこなくても、相手選手へプレッシャーをかけたり、蹴りこまれるロングボールへ競りに向かったりと、様々な役割を託されるのが現代サッカーの決まりごとだ。攻撃の選手もボールを受けに行ったり、チームのプレスを助けたりしたなければならないということである。
　好不調の波によるミスの増加がチームにもたらす影響についてはいうまでもないだろう。ミスの少なさもまた現代サッカーの特徴である。

　ロナウジーニョはまだ若い。“2年目のジンクス”という言葉の通り、活躍すれば警戒され、分析され、徹底マークされるのが欧州サッカーの常である。消える時間についてはこれから克服していくことだろう。
好不調の波についても同様だが、ミスの多さは少し気になるところ。
　例えば、最近、体力的に衰えが見られているフランスの新将軍ジネディーヌ・ジダンの全盛期と比べると、ロナウジーニョはかなりミスパスが多い。しかし、ロナウジーニョほど意外性の高いプレーを連発する選手は他にいないのも事実であり、単純な比較は難しいのかもしれないが……。
　いずれにしても、一般的にサッカー選手は20代後半になると無駄が減りミスが少なくなることが多いので、ロナウジーニョにもまだ成熟の余地があるということに過ぎないかもしれない。

②技術のわりに、“普段は”とりわけシュートミスが多い。

　こちらは徐々に克服しつつある印象を受ける。そもそも点取り屋ではないので、そこまで毎回シュートを枠に飛ばす必要もないし、得点数も少なくないのだが、ゴール至近でのシュートや画面アップで表情が映し出されるお馴染みの直接フリーキックについては、確率的な視点から、精度を欠くといえなくもないだろう。
　実際、バルセロナやブラジル代表のゲームを何試合かフルタイムで観戦すれば分かると思うが、トップレベルのプロ選手としてはミスの部類に入るであろうプレーも少なからず見受けられる。上記の①と同様、これから成熟していく要素なのだろう。

　ところが、ここまで纏めてみて、①にも②にも共通して浮かぶ素朴な疑問があることに気付く。飛び抜けた技術のわりに安定感がなくシュートやFKのミスが多いロナウジーニョなのだが、不思議なことにといったら失礼か、ビッグ・ゲームになると尽く貴重なゴールを生み出しているのだ。
　はじめのほうに列挙したゴールの数々でそれは明らかである。厳しいシュチュエーションにおいて、勝敗を左右するであろうゴールを蹴りこみ、それも多くの場合は美しく、鮮烈だ。

　重要な試合で活躍するということを簡単にいえば“勝負強い”ということになるが、えてしてサッカーには言葉では表現できない神秘的ともとれる瞬間が存在する。
　まるでそこに何かが潜んでいるかのような気にさせるシーンに私たちは遭遇するのだ。流れていた時間が止まってしまったような感覚に襲われるとでもいえばいいのか……。ロナウジーニョはそういうプレーができる数少ない選手の中の一人である。
　ただサッカーが巧いだけじゃないというべきか、それともこれだけ巧い選手にはサッカーの神様が宿るものなのか……。
　ちなみに、“神”を辞書で引くと主に“人間を超越したもの”とある。何やら理解できない正体不明の感動を与える瞬間が存在するという意味では人を超越していることにもなるが、そのシーンを観ている私たちも演じている選手たちも人間であるという意味において、やはり超越しているという表現が適切だとは言い難い。

　一つ言えるのは、そういった瞬間には、選手に、高度の集中力、精神的な強靭さが必要不可欠であることだけは確かであろうということ。
　よく素晴らしいプレーをした選手に「あの瞬間何を考えていましたか？」と質問すると、「何も考えていなかった」という答えが返ってくる。脳を含めた体のあらゆる部分を一つの目標に向ける。余計なものを全て排除する。無心になるために集中する。

　かつて僧侶は、無心になることを悟りと呼んだ。
　彼らをそういった次元まで運ぶものは何なのか？

　ときに大衆は、神懸り的という言葉を好んで遣う。
　神様が存在しないとすれば、彼らをそこまでさせるものとはいったい何なのか？

　他の多くの人間が持ち合わせていないもの、内に秘めたるもの、子供の頃から培ってきたもの。
　彼らの体を駆り立てるものの正体は？

　サッカーに対する情熱なのだろうか……。
　はたまた誰もが幾許かは持ち合わせているであろう野心やプライドなのだろうか……。
